Cortijo La Torrera is a traditional spanish cortijo, in the Alpujarras Southern Spain.
It is in the province of Granada, at the foot of
the Sierra Nevada mountains and The Alpujarra (made famous by Gerald Brenan´s book "South of Granada"), in a valley which comes down from Gualchos, 10 Km
from the mountain village of Lujar, and 3 Km from Castell de Ferro and
the nearest beaches. There is easy access from the Mediterranean motorway (N-340),
and it is only 105 Km from Málaga airport and 90 Km from Almería and the Natural
park of Cabo de Gata. Granada with its international airport, Ski Resort of
Sierra Nevada and famous Alhambra Palace, is only an hour and a quarter away.
The country house (or cortijo) "La Torrera" is situated on its own hill,
set in mountainous and agricultural scenery, facing south to the
Mediterranean sea only 3 kilometres away, with views of the lighthouse
and the ancient Moorish castle of Castell de Ferro, lit up at night. "La Torrera" is more than 150 years old and it has been carefully and
lovingly restored, maintaining its Andalucian rustic charm whilst
providing all modern comforts.
In front of the bar and dining room is the old threshing circle, once used
to grind corn by mule on the floor laid out with large stones, it now has
a barbecue built beside it. In summer it is used as a terrace where our
guests can take the opportunity to try our delicious, widely-known
barbecued meat dishes. We also offer typical Andalucian cuisine and
vegetarian food. The cortijo is open all year round. Your hosts, who live there, are always
available to guests, creating an agreeable, relaxed atmosphere. Some of
the activities available in the area include fishing, diving, walking,
mountainbiking, horseriding and paragliding. Most of these activities can
be organised by prior notification. The average autumn/winter temperature
is 15-20 C° with the spring/summer temperature settling between 20-38 c°.
