:: GRANADA AND THE COSTA TROPICAL (7 NIGHTS) ::

Seven nights staying at cortijo La Torrera Alta, Full Board. Includes transfer from and to the airports of Málaga, Granada or Almería. An example of the excursions are as follow:

Excursion to Salobreña and Motril

A visit to the pretty seaside resort of Salobreña with its rock half submerged in the Mediterranean, separating its two main beaches, its Castle-fortress (s.XIII) and The Historical Museum “Villa de Salobreña”. A walk around the old town of Salobreña, Calle Real, Calle Salvador Villaescusa, etc.

We will have an aperitif “tapas” before our lunch in a typical “chiringuito” on the beach.

In the afternoon discovering the wonders of Motril, the nerve-centre of the coast of Granada. A visit to the Sugarcane Museum, in the “Casa de la Palma”, this is a 16 th century Moorish sugar mill. Excavations at the back of this building have revealed valuable remains of the only sugar mill of its type in Europe. Walk around the town, the Municipal Market, Calderón de la Barca Theatre, Built in 1880 in a Neoclassic style, The Town Hall, built in 1631 in the Baroque style, etc.

 

A day in Almuñecar

A day out in Almuñecar which lies in the shade of a small hill and was discovered by the Phoenicians 1500 years ago. It was later fortified by the Romans who called it “Sexi Firmun Julium” with its great aqueduct. In the year 755, Abderramán, arrived in Almuñecar having fled from Damascus, he was later proclaimed Emir of Córdoba.
Today it is a cosmopolitan town with its established international community. also known for its subtropical cultivation of avocados, chirimoyas, mangos, kiwis, etc. Visiting the Castle, the Archaeological Museum and the Botanical Gardens “El Majuelo”.

After lunch a visit to the bay of La Herradura and its Puerto Marina del Este.


•  A tour of some of the white washed villages of the High Alpujarra mountains. Passing through Orgiva, at 454 metres altitude, overlooking a lush valley, with its chesnut and pine groves, reaching and passing through the Poqueira valley arriving at Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira, with their typical Alpujarreño style, set in the back drop of the snow capped Sierra Nevada. Lunch in one of the local taverns.

•  A day out in Granada, visiting the famous Alhambra Palace and Generalife, the Cathedral, the old jewish quarter, etc. Lunch. Shopping in the afternoon.

•  The Wine Route of the Contraviesa valley, visiting the villages of Polopos, with its Wine Museum, Sorvilan, Albondon, Haza del Lino, tasting the local wine and products of the area. Lunch in one of the villages.
